We are dealing with Discrimination and Assumptions that are not even true. Discrimination is defined as the “unjust, prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or a particular group especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex and in a way that is worse than the way people are usually treated”(Cambridge University). ̈ Immigrants are always being seen as rapists, violent criminals, murders, and how when citizens were asked one word that came to mind when thinking of an immigrant was ̈illegal ̈. (Carola and Marcelo Suárez-Orozcos). In this quote, it shows that no matter what immigrants are always going to be seen like this because it’s what society, the government has told us and shown us this way to think about immigrants. This isn’t exactly true, half of these immigrants that get discriminated are only here to work to be able to feed their families just like everybody else. Even in the United States, not all Mexicans are immigrants there Mexican American citizens.
My solution will be implemented by surgically giving everyone who lives in the United States a mask that you won’t be able to see anything it will cover you to the point where people won’t know what race or ethnicity you are and a full body suit to cover your body. The mask will be given out to the children once they turn six years old because at that age is when they start having “A proper awareness of social stereotypes”(Gjersoe) Children are able to identify a racial identity by the age of four through six. Also, because at this age they are still young enough to still be taught about people’s race and ethnicity. “Children will be given the opportunity to interact regularly with people from different types of races” without even knowing it in a positive way without having nobody be discriminated at and will show “more positive racial attitudes in their lives”(Gjersoe). The first surgery of the mask will be free then when it starts peeling off and need to do touch ups to the mask it will be a cost of $30.00. When you need to do the surgery from the beginning the masks will cost free for children until they hit a specific age which in this case would be 18+ when they would start paying for the surgeries. Adults $60.00 because adults will require a bigger size in the mask. If people are not able to pay for the surgeries to receive a mask they are able to talk to the government and there credit will be checked and will be given the masks free until they are stable enough to pay for it themselves. The profits that will be received will go to the companies that will be manufacturing the masks , another percentage to the government to make sure everyone is kept safe and rules to be followed. The way that these masks will be purchased is going online when you make an appointment, you are able to pay then and there or when you get to the hospital. When your kid gets to the age of four, five and six, they will have to get the mask surgically placed so that no one can take it off or even remove it themselves. The period that these masks will last 12 months to five years.
This is wrong because everyone in this country deserves a chance for a better life and just because part of their community is bad doesn’t mean all the community is. Some Immigrants just want to get there money from there job and help give their children a better life than what they had. In reality people should care and not discriminate because discriminating people is a very bad thing. Research shows that not only adult Immigrants are being discriminated but also “ many young children of immigrants who account for around a quarter of all children under age 8 in the U.S. face this at school during this formative period.”(Carnock,Adair) This can eventually result negatively towards the children’s lives and psychological ways.
As we know this solution is unrealistic and would actually happen but what’s real is the problems that are going on with the immigrants. This is a really big issue that has been going on for years and still had not gotten better. Immigrants Keep getting discriminated and we need to do something so immigrants have a better environment and don’t have to worry that their child will be discriminated. The actions that are really good and will bring people’s attention to this is posting it on social media . talk to the immigrants tell them to share their story on the news, try to send letters to the government, and a big on are protests. These things in especially will help society be a better place and even Immigrants will have a better life.
